When people complain about things like this being taught as criticizing America, it is. But it is constructive if you look at why it should be questioned and what the harms and benefits of these occurrences were. It only serves those in power to demand that a pre-approved, sanitized (empty and dishonest) version of history be taught and frankly, it doesn't necessarily serve them all that well in the long term.

P.S. I do not recall ever being taught about this. It is sadly relevant to the attitudes and actions of our present time.
