The info in this article (let me know if the text doesn't come up, it's important) suggests at least two major problems.

1) Sudden loss of appropriate medical care being available, even if you have insurance because there's nobody to do it. While it is probably simply the incompetence of this administration and their spear-carriers, there is definitely malevolence behind much of what they do, and oops, gosh, who knew it would be complicated is just not an acceptable answer. Trump may be a clueless idiot, but the people with him, behind him, and the officials in Congress are not.

2) How could there possibly be a shortage of trained people to do these jobs? I say this because nursing schools were having trouble getting nurses hired because hospitals were freezing hiring and not filling jobs because they said they couldn't afford to pay the nurses. And I am particularly talking about people with full, advanced nursing degrees, not just the nursing titles with less training or experience. I knew people with full training who could not get a job. Is this regionalism? Disingenuity? What?

Those were the two problems that are news to me with this article. However, there's one more problem that is gaining steam on a variety of fronts - CBP.

Either they have been sitting on their hands and doing a terrible job for decades and allowing all sorts of sloppy visas and whatnot through (doubt it). Or this administration has very clearly told them that they can be as aggressive as they want to and no one will tell them no, even if they are wrong.

There have been a number of articles that have come out pointing out that a lot of the legal protections even US citizens born in the US have are suspended when crossing the border. CBP is not subject to them. It is, based on what I've read, up to their discretion.

Unfortunately, when you read things like this it sounds an awful lot like people who are a little too excited about having power over others. Particularly people who feel they've been supervised too tightly and told no too often and are all excited about the opportunities to not have to follow a strict interpretation of the rules anymore.

Congress seems perfectly happy to allow this to continue. I find it concerning. Blue Eyes, Brown Eyes stuff happens because the most senior recognized authority has officially permitted one group to be more powerful. That then is taken as tacit permission for all sorts of things to be ok. When you let people with real power to harm feel like nobody is going to tell them no, you get very bad things. History is rife with those examples.
