For various and sundry reasons, I had to be in Durham for a couple of days recently. Rise (Biscuits Donuts) was new right at the end of my previous tenure, so I thought I'd check it out. I present the pickle chicken biscuit sandwich I had for lunch.

1) The biscuits are Very Large. Also, clearly griddle fried, but crumbly (in a good way) and tasty.

2) Better than average fried chicken and pickle biscuit sandwich.

3) Donuts were meh. They weren't bad, they just weren't the mind-blowing they were reputed to be. I tried the Pineapple Basil "filled" donut. So I assumed it would be filled with pineapple filling with some basil (menu does not clarify, just says "filled"). Nope. Filled with plain whipped cream, just lightly glazed with a pineapple basil glaze. While the glaze was a good version of itself, if I had licked it off and skipped the rest I would not have missed anything.

Upshot: Biscuits, esp as sandwich, very worth it, donuts, not so much. I am personally still a much bigger fan of the Flying Biscuit type of fluffy biscuit given the option, but would eat this sandwich again.
