    It's been a thing in the greater DC area for a while. Gov. McAuliffe backed the shale gas projects (this and the Atlantic Coast Pipeline) bucking (some say, backstabbing) the enviromental groups which backed his election.

    I didn't specifically remember hearing about it messing up the Appalachian Trail, though.
