My opinion on this is not equivocal: vaccinate against measles. It isn't only your child who may die years later because you didn't vaccinate them, it is other people's children who may have been too young or otherwise ill to receive the vaccine. SSPE is 100% fatal.
NB: It used to be taught that SSPE occurred more frequently in males than females. I do not know if the new information on frequency of occurrence included data that may have updated that information, as well.

I'm not surprised to learn that measles will re-awaken. Chicken Pox becomes shingles. Although, this is a much more severe secondary virus. Just makes the diseases that much scarier than the sting of the vaccine shot.
