1. I think I have figured out which spectrum of traits mom's behavior falls into - borderline. I'm especially looking at you, devaluation. Borderline is such a poorly defined, poorly studied area I'm not surprised it took so long to figure out. Those of you who are naturally analytical will understand why it might help me to have a box with a label. It's a pretty disturbing box, but it's better than having nothing but chaos.
2. Dad is having a hard time with side effects and his mood is exceptionally down. Mouthwash, which is usually viscous lidocaine and whatever else they mixed it with, is what they gave him to help with the expected swallowing problems, but it's minimally helpful and upsetting his stomach. He's trying just gargling with it, but that means it doesn't numb the whole internal throat area. Also, apparently they don't even try to flavor it? FYI, anesthetics taste terrible unless somebody tries to flavor them, and sometimes even then. He's starting to have real trouble swallowing food due to the pain.
3. The environment around here is unbelievably tense. It's a shame, because mom has tried really hard and done some good things in between the diagnosable and damaging behavior. Sadly, she has done things that threaten to damage or actually damage other people and I don't think that if our family gets past this that any of this will ever be possible to reset to before she lost it with my dad's illness. They are basically not talking to each other, which of course doesn't make anything better, but they can't talk to each other because of her issues. Iow, she really is the largest part of that problem and created this situation which she finds painful and difficult, but also lacks the insight to really change how she got here. So it goes.
** Since when don't you list the ingredients in a rx?! It doesn't say what it is except for some stuff about the lidocaine. Look at all the potential mixtures it could be, some of which include other drugs, and even when they don't, they should make sure it's something someone doesn't have problems with. I can't with this. http://www.drotterholt.com/magicmouthwash.html

Cholorseptic spray might get down a little farther? Other than that, I've got nothing. Except ((hugs)) and all the support and listening.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I thought of that, although I'd have to check on the mucosal absorption in combo with the lidocaine. I am having to carefully space the attempts at genuine helping due to dad's physical exhaustion, mental burnout, and emotional overload. My dad doesn't really have that much time in a day when he can even right now.
ReplyDeleteI don't know if you'd like suggestions, but maybe putting it in a spray bottle or flavor with peppermint drops?
ReplyDeleteI know walgreens can add flavoring to medicines
ReplyDeleteAnnette Dilick really? Awesome!
ReplyDeleteThis came from Walgreens. They're really very good usually. They had to jump through hoops because the insurance company was refusing to pay for the stuff, for example+. Anyway, I will see if my dad minds if I ask about some stuff. I try really hard not to make him feel like he's being treated like he's helpless or stupid, or to over-offer 'help'. He's already got somebody standing on all those nerves. I'm trying not to get on his last one.
ReplyDelete+If you're bored, the reason for that was that some of the ingredients are available separately as over-the-counter items. Like, what, he's supposed to compound the stuff himself? Sure, insurance companies don't make medical decisions for people. Sure.
