We have an update. I was not precisely correct at the original posting due to a lack of certain info. It is both better and worse. The doctor who disappeared probably knew what he was planning to do, but he did NOT tell the practice. With one possible caveat.

- He did, indeed, leave to tour with an orchestra.
- He apparently comes from a very wealthy family and has never needed to work.
- He did not "retire". He just left. 3 weeks ago. Except he might come in at night to help with reading imaging. For a little while. Maybe.
- He was one of the founders of the practice, so presumably owns at least part of it?
- The practice and staff are not best pleased.
- The interesting caveat: his wife is the practice manager. She is still working there. It is unclear if she knew anything ahead of time.

My personal opinion is that this has veered from merely unprofessional to something more problematic. However, the doctor who saw my dad said they have started looking for someone to replace him. It's a bloody soap opera.
