Yay. Not the only one nonplussed by this. Although I will say that in a purely goal-oriented sense it doesn't matter if Johns Hopkins is subject to opprobrium, since they have achieved the free press they were looking for.
The second link is a brief interview with one of the authors. It includes some interesting info not in the press release. Best of all are things like this quote:
We are deeply concerned about this particular messaging. Our work is very consistent with previous work showing that supplementation is critical to maternal health and child development and health, so at this point the recommendation is definitely to continue supplementation.
Images of horses and barn doors come to mind.
I agree with rather a lot of the Atlantic article and am again pleased that journalism may actually have occurred. Also, props for the pregnancy pun in the headline, there.
