Well, that was about an hour and a half well spent at the DMV. To be fair, the local DMV was quick, helpful, apologetic, and informative. It's not their fault that the state level DMV refused to allow them to reissue the title with the corrected VIN on it. Nor is it their fault that the state DMV required them to send the paperwork via US Mail and refused to accept it either via fax or electronically. So the registration is all corrected, my insurance is all corrected (just waiting for new cards), I just have to wait a minimum of 2 weeks for the corrected title. Other plus - nobody even suggested I would have to pay for any of this since it was their mistake to begin with.
And I have a new air bag thingy because recall which is how we all discovered the NY DMV messed up the VIN to begin with. P.S. I didn't hear this from them, but the locals said that the computer should, in fact, have not accepted the incorrect VIN in the first place. Lulz.
