Ok, so, I did this sort of irrational superstitious wait until X thing with not updating.
Ok, so, I did this sort of irrational superstitious wait until X thing with not updating. Anyway, don't remember exactly what I told you and what I didn't. Let me sum up:
- Incidental found heart damage from stuff
- Much invasive evaluating said finding
- Eventual invasive fixing of stuff, which required meds that anti-coagulate
- Sort of constant higher risk of bleeding because blood cancer, anyway
- Restarted some chemo for side-effect cancers you get from this main cancer (I didn't know this initially)
- This chemo has a possible side effect of bleeding or at least potentiating anti-coagulation (this was apparently pooh-poohed by certain professionals because they personally had never seen it - nice call, yutz)
- Bleeding ensues - only a little at first, so just have stop one of two anti-coag meds; chemo is already in system
- Bleeding gets bad - visit emergency room, they do things
- See another doctor next day at office, they do things
- Bleeding continues at low level while many doctors debate and they try to schedule dad for surgical procedure to stop bleeding
- Emergency scheduled procedure, send home same day with tubes and stuff
- See doctor next day, remove tubes and stuff
- Bleeding initially slows, but doesn't stop
- Eventually stops
- Fast forward to today, which was last day absolutely had to continue one med (supposed to restart weaker one that was stopped tomorrow)
That was the last two weeks, combined with me getting shot down on an interview thing, which did not make me feel awesome about life.
So I was superstitiously waiting until the last day my dad had to take the one med because I did not want to jinx this and start the bleeding again. Stupid, but there it is.

P.S. 2016, you may now improve.
ReplyDeleteSeriously?!? Not believing on bleeding stuff when he has a history of bleeding issues even before the cancer?!?
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry :(
ReplyDeleteIt's a documented but rare thing with this kind of chemo, esp if you combo with anti-coagulants. Basically, assumed wouldn't happen because never has with their patients. Add in the risk from a blood cancer, anyway, and, well, yeah, kind of stupid to dismiss it, as opposed to saying it is a real risk but rare.
