It would seem that, like Scotch Broth, Split Pea soup is no longer a thing. You can buy a couple of brands, still, but most of them are this chunky mass of ham and veggies and some of them are kind of watery. It's too bad, because I like split pea, esp if it's thick and flavored with bacon, but not full of chunks of stuff. It was awesome when I could just eat a can of it. Oh, well, it will be a treat I sometimes make for myself, I guess.

  1. I just made a crock pot full -added lentils, carrots spices and chunks of ham and cooked until mushy. The best one I made was with a whole ham steak (bone in).

  2. Ziploc bags and a freezer = soup for all seasons.

  3. What Amy said. Also, proper split pea soup is best done in large batches.

  4. Yep. I just liked being able to get one of my faves out of a non-energy required can.
