Don Zack is legit; I know him. This technique, if replicated in other labs, would be a huge improvement over having to isolate and culture RGCs (retinal ganglion cells), something only a handful of labs really do consistently and well. It's a much bigger leap to transplant the cells into eyes, connect the whole pathway to the brain, and get the brain to recognize them, have them function, and be able to use them to see. Still, it's a potentially impressive move forward.
