There are places to whom you cannot send an electronic transcript request and from whom you cannot receive an electronic copy thereof. The mind boggles. Some of these same places are charmingly clear that there is no amount of money that will expedite their efforts, either, nor can you pay for them to overnight snail mail. In 2015. Snail mail. Witice.

  1. For work, I have had to personally go down to the city records office and wait for them to print copies for me because they would not send them through the mail, electronically, or any other way.  They also charged an arm and a leg for copies, so I suspect that is their way of protecting their ability to make money, but we just scanned them into our computers so we would never need them again, anyway.

  2. The city records thing is usually for "official" copies. I'd say something similar for the transcripts, but I don't understand the no overnight thing at all.

  3. Houston doesn't issue non-official copies, so the only option is the "official" copy, or paying for a new inspection.  Most other places either had their records available online or would send them to me over e-mail.  Occasionally, I would have some that charged a nominal fee for the clerk's time, etc.  And a few did require hard copies, but they were fine with FedEx, as long as I was paying.

  4. The other issue with snail mail is that if they go through, say, FedEx, they will not deliver to PO Boxes, which is often where you have to send things. AUGH. Scan everything into online e-stuff so we can e-mail them. There are ways to make sure this is secure and there are e-signatures and whatnot that can be set up.
