The good - video clip of nephew bashing drum and tambourine. Although he clearly had the wrong end of the stick. Which would be funny if you saw the video. I swear.

The bad - Asked do I want to spend one more day with mumblemumble persons at a family thing to which I have been hogtied. Don't get me wrong. I like the people having the shindig, but it's in Allentown, PA. And I have to be in a room with immediate family in a temporary domiciling arrangement, also known as a hotel. For many days. And the people involved in the gee, we're gonna be there longer and wouldn't it be great if, etc. request are the same people/persons involved in the oh, gosh, we just never get to spend any time alone with each other debacle of 1 month ago. What I really want to say is well, gee, here's your opportunity to spend more time alone together.

The ugly - oh, mom and her brother and her behavior because of her stress because of her choosing to be involved with him, blah blah blah

TIL that some languages apparently have words inherently differentiating one's status as a citizen or resident of the entity versus a member of a particular ethnic or cultural group? I don't quite grasp the whole thing, although I heard the point being made. What's interesting to me is a) that there is such a thing, which seems very revealing of something about a culture that would need such concepts built into the language, and b) that there seem to be people who think it's inaccurate to interpret the word choice as meaningful. Firstly, since languages have all sorts of concepts built into them, many very specific to their primary culture of use, it seems reasonable that such a thing could exist. Not that I would have thought of it before, since I'm not from a culture where that sort of subtlety functions. Good News:

Good News: 1. Thruway is open between Buffalo and Rochester. 2. You can get on it going from Buffalo south to Pennsylvania, but you cannot get off of it between Buffalo and Pennsylvania. 3. Almost all the other major highways are open. 4. This is important, because with no highways open, there was no way to truck in food for the grocery stores, or gas for the cars and snow removal equipment and generators, etc. Yes, some places were starting to run low. (Yeah, they removed all the refineries and terminals years ago. Which is why our gas is still well above $3/gal. The closest place we get it from is Akron, OH. Wtf, government. P.S. Good plan! That whole section of I-90 runs along the eastern side of Lake Erie. FYI, that would be the part where they get Lake Effect snow. All winter, every winter. Good strategic planning.) Bad News: 1.
