My sister needs punchings. Or professional therapy. It could go either way.

  1. Professional punching therapy?

(That actually sounds like something that probably exists somewhere.)

  2. Actually, giving her a punching bag, or at least one of those blow up clown punching things might be really helpful as part of her therapy. If she'd use it.

  3. I was talking about a hypothetical therapy where you pay to be someone else's punching bag.

  4. I know, but there is a real therapeutic thing. Sorry to ruin the humor, though.

  5. I read a Cracked article (so, take it with a prehistoric axe-sized chunk of rock salt) that said that punching a bag is actually not good for you.

Apparently there no such thing as "bottling up" anger.  Brains don't have an anger storage compartment.  What they do have is neural pathways that you're more likely to use more if you reinforce them by consciously using them.

So "letting your anger out" and laying into a punching bag is actually likely to make you more angry more often, and reinforce punching something as a coping mechanism.
