I'm sure
that's not
enough space

plenty of warning

I like Nick Frost. I even like the presumably unintentional multi-pun of making him Santa Claus/Father Christmas. I like casting a Troughton. I like casting a Strax. I even liked the acting from some of the people who will never be seen again on this show.
Were there hints of ideas that might have worked somewhere else if someone else was running the show? Yes. Has this doctor figured out who or what he is yet? No. He's a kind of running non sequitur, as is the writing of/for him. You can't really build a new character, though, when the writers haven't quite shaken off the tropes of the previous characters. And Clara may be getting better, but she's still a great big missed opportunity and no more coherent a character than the Doctor.
P.S. You know, it's not that I think people should just get depressed and die, because, in case that's unclear, not. However, if Clara misses Danny Pink that much, and she'd die happy, thinking she was spending the rest of her life with him and never knowing she'd died, exactly what is wrong with that? It's not new to suggest that "they're in a better place, now", and that would be the best of all possible places to her, based on the one season of her and Pink. But no, all of a sudden, it's all ok becauseshe's not leaving the show the doctor lied and he came back and he's Santa and isn't everything all better, now, because we're not going to deal with our grieving process, we're just going to run away from it until it's a convenient plot device to randomly pop up they give up and get rid of Clara's character, who has nothing identifiably left related to Mad Dalek Souffle Girl, who might have been kind of interesting.
Just for the record, I like clementines (what they called tangerines). If you leave them for me, I will eat them. Thanks very much.
In conclusion, best character in the episode, hands down, Santa.

ReplyDeleteWell, because it's a form of this:
because we're not going to deal with our grieving process, we're just going to run away from it
