They were talking about this on the radio today. One of the things I learned living in Vancouver is that the US is far from the only country in North America that has sanitized its history.

I mean, the actual patented registered name of a major piece of industrial equipment used in a major industry from the early 1900's was the Iron Chink. That's some major league racism there.

In any case, it is unsurprising and yet still sad to me that the British Empire did not consider people of color born within the empire worthy of citizenship. That they became angry and people died, well, that's a story that repeats itself over and over.

As an aside, I am amused by the fact that although this Wikipedia entry is about an incident entirely and exclusively within the former British Empire and Canada, it somehow manages to mention the US at least twice. News flash: they did it doesn't make what you did less heinous.
