So, um, this is the first year I will be trying the running in snow, slush, and other heinous forms of weather thing.
So, um, this is the first year I will be trying the running in snow, slush, and other heinous forms of weather thing. Do any of you more experienced types have any recommendations?
If you can, try to run in the sunlight. The street is often less slippery than the sidewalk, and less apt to hide weird bumps. Jog slowly. Two layers on your butt under 30 F. They make ice pick thingys you can strap on to your shoes, I might try those this year but haven't yet. The wind makes a HUGE difference under 30F. 30F and 5-10mph is fine. 30F and 20+ mph gets tough. Cover your ears, gloves (with mittens over them under 20-25F), and get a neck warmer that you can pull over your chin. Or go full balaclava. Try things out, but you'll be surprised how 2-3 layers are enough on your torso. I always wear a shirt and thick sweatshirt under 45F, and only add an additional undershirt < 25F.
ReplyDeleteThat's incoherent, but hopefully it helps.
Wool socks. Gloves. It might take a few runs to figure out the layering (too much or not enough). I also have Buffs on my neck to cover my nose when very cold/windy. My lowest outside running temp is 25 deg, yours may be different.
ReplyDeleteIt's probably super individual but you will probably find temps and weather conditions affect you in ways you don't expect. It's baffling to me that I wear a tank top and shorts in 55 and sunny, but two shirts and pants in 45 and cloudy.
ReplyDeleteI recommend you take a taxi.
ReplyDeleteCute, Christopher Walken, cute.
