It is raining, although fortunately not a whole lot.
It is raining, although fortunately not a whole lot. That will help. They still have flood warnings out all over the area, but are mostly downgrading it to minor flooding potential, as opposed to "Where're my hip waders, Myrtle?" We're special, we still get moderate flooding potential. Go us! Er, wait ....
It is pretty impressive how fast the snow melts, though, the minute the temps stay above freezing. Also, they must feel that people have been able to clear a great deal of the street drains, as that sort of blockage was one of the concerns. The other good news is, of course, unlike a Spring melt, none of the creeks or rivers themselves are frozen, thus the channels of flow are open, so long as the volume capacity is not exceeded at any given point in time.
Most of the major roads are completely open, now, and teams of volunteers have been driving to the edge of, if not into, the worst areas and forming shovel brigades to help dig people out. The National Guard is still here, working to get snow off the roofs of people's homes and critical facilities before they collapse in the worst hit areas. Trucks of food and fuel are finally making into the area. Store shelves were lookin' a little sparse, there, and some gas stations had closed even in our area, which was not one of the severely hit ones.
We've been downgraded to a minor part of the national news. Yay!
P.S. The worst hit areas are really still in a bad way, but it's now more likely they will get help very soon, if it hasn't quite gotten there, yet.
