Dear New York Times writer/editor: WTF?
Dear New York Times writer/editor: WTF?! No, really. Minnesota may be the most egregious, on several levels, but what is with choosing some chef's weird interpretation of what otherwise might have at least been a traditional local dish without the effete nonsense, whether or not it's actually associated with Thanksgiving? Frex, Gooey Butter Cake. Totally not Thanksgiving specific, and, apparently, the rest of Missouri can bugger off. On top of which, the recipe isn't even actual Gooey Butter Cake. And it's from Brooklyn!
And how about pickled peaches (it's a sweet spice type) for North Carolina or another of the Southern states? Or Sweet Potato Pie? Where's the Deep Fried Turkey? I never saw anyone at home mix anything other than corn into their cornbread, not that I ate in every home in the state. I don't even know what to say about Colorado being summed up as the Land of Stoned Snackers. This should have been the I hang out with trust fund babies and snobby hipsters Thanksgiving Recipes list.
P.S. I have never in my life heard of grape salad, and thus far, neither have any of my extended family or any of their friends and relatives, either. Not that FB is a scientific sample, or anything.
P.P.S. Wanna know where they serve something weird and grapey? Southwestern New York State. Where there is a very large table and wine grape growing region. That has a grape festival every year. Where they serve grape pie.
