Ymmv, and I'm no longer in a position to have all the most detailed and up to date info on the subject, but I think this is important, and anyone who feels that it is worth supporting the concept of funding medical training might think about supporting this effort.
This is not about whether or not there are other ways, or better ways, of making sure we continue to train physicians in the US. By all means, tell your Congresspersons if you have opinions on that. This is about the current system, in which we have resident and fellow positions because the federal government provides the primary funding for them.
You cannot practice medicine if you do not complete a residency and/or fellowship, even if you've completed medical school.
