Ob comment - surreal. Huge vision, would have been crazy, insane film that would very probably have achieved the goal of being like an LSD trip without needing the LSD. He had his own ideas that were not exactly the book, but were very consonant with the 70's. Then again, he was very into the whole spiritual, metaphysical, messianic thing.
It was a good chance to practice my languages, notwithstanding that everything is subtitled, including accented English bits. Some of it would have been tough to understand without them. There's a very vocal Siamese, probably the only character not subtitled.
It really is impressive how many of the people brought together for Dune went on to work on so many classic SciFi films. Also, how many of them were a little ... out there. It's a good documentary, at least if you didn't know anything about this, like me.
P.S. The 70's were seriously messed up.
