I just found out about this.
I just found out about this. It is deeply shocking and upsetting. He sincerely mentored young physician scientists when it wasn't necessarily the "in" thing to do, and he gave me support and opportunities that I would not otherwise have had. He was a real person, so there are people who will say things pro and con, but he grew Duke's Ophthalmology department to its current size, and was chair as it consistently ranked in the top 10 in the country. He's a great loss to the history and character of glaucoma and ophthalmology. He will be missed.

ReplyDeleteBryn Smith So I understood. For various reasons beyond the obvious, it's very appropriate.
