Seems there was something going around about Niagara Falls being frozen. Also, some things debunking that. Because I'm sure it's critically important for you to know, the Falls doesn't freeze. The mist will freeze into thick layers of ice over everything, and the Niagara River will freeze, and ice from the Great Lakes will stop by for a visit, but the Falls themselves don't freeze.
What's unusual this year is how early how much ice has built up on the river and at the base of the falls. Per the park ossifer, there are places where the ice on the river below the falls has gotten to 28 feet thick. You could probably, with difficulty, walk across the river, which happened historically on occasion, but there's this whole, OMG, BORDER thing, now.
They advise against it, although it seems there are people who illegally try to immigrate in either direction by crossing the river. Probably some smuggling, too. He was quite clear about how the whole gorge is rigged with sensors for just such an eventuality. Man, if there was ever anything that sounded like a real life set-up for LARPing ...
