So, the interview thingy ...
It would seem that I got the interview because I had networked., more successfully than I knew. It cascaded, which is what it's supposed to do when it works. In this case, it actually cascaded up (a lot of yay on some levels there). Unfortunately, it worked so well that it annoyed the person in question into giving me an interview. And he does not want to hear anything from anyone else, ever again, about me. Couched in the context of if I can get some practical experience in place that proves I can do the work, they will consider a future application (good and bad, but will explain elsetime).
So, I would not have gotten the interview without the networking,
But the networking ended up pressuring and annoying the person in question.
And nobody's offering me a job, for the nonce.

Well. That's . . . irritating. But maybe another branch of the evidently-extant network will bear some fruit?
ReplyDeleteIt seems to me that someone who wants to give you an interview just to tell you he's annoyed at how much he's heard about you wouldn't be the person I would want to work for, anyway. I agree with Amy Young that progress is progress. Keep your chin up!
ReplyDeleteWell, the person in question was being honest, which is kind of unusual in my experience, and I think was trying to tell me that they would work with me to some extent on getting where I want to go, but only if they didn't get more pressure from other people. So, I know where I am very clearly. And, he has said he would put me in contact with the people who might be able to facilitate my getting that practical experience.
ReplyDeleteAs much as it feels all catch 22ish, the frank honesty is pretty impressive, relative to the nonsense I've often dealt with. I just wish this could have happened in some more magically convenient way for me.
And yeah, somewhere in all this I have to get a job that pays while I'm busy retraining, or this ain't goin' no place, fast.
