Dinner, at www.pucciniandpinetti.com
The restaurant next to my hotel. Acai, lime, vodka, et al - whatever it was was citrusy and refreshing, not sweet - also potent (or I'm tired, stressed, dehydrated, la la la). Rosemary focaccia with tasty tapenade with stuff in addition to the olives (high level food blogging going on here). Arugula salad with blood orange, pomegranate, and goat cheese. Spaghetti Bolognese with meatballs. 99% meat, 1% tomato, garlic, other. Nicely spicy meatballs, nicely cooked pasta; tasty Brussels sprouts. Served hot. I love when food is served hot - not burn your mouth hot, I should probably blow on this or take small bites hot - because otherwise it gets cold unless you gobble, and then what's the point?
Running on. Bourgeois portion of our commentary - portions very generous - same cost as dinner last night, which was a networking.op, but tonight I have leftovers for two more meals. Last night was Famous Name Steak Place. Where I did not get steak b/c no expense acct and o.O zomg wtf?! Did the steer get hand massaged on a mountaintop in Shangri La by Vestal virgins? Had it been force feeding itself for months? Commentary on association between mtgs and dining reserved for a later rant.
Tonight was awesome - good food, good service, relaxed. Sigh. WYWH

I always have a really hard time ordering Spaghetti Bolognese -- no matter how good it is, it's still Spaghetti with Meat Sauce, you know? The most pedestrian of all family meals.
ReplyDelete(And it's a sign of my changing taste buds that the thing that looks the most appetizing in your pictures is the Brussels Sprouts..)
Yeah, Brussels sprouts and I were unfriends in my youth. Then again, all anyone did then was boil them into green-gray submission.
ReplyDeleteBolognese seems to range from tomato over which meat has been waved, to meat over which tomato has been waved. For me, this is like Ratatouille; a common dish made exceptionally well can equal or outdo something spiffier. Finding that, though, can be challenging.
If I'm going to call something Bolognese, it's going to have a crapload more veggies in it (squash, carrots, whatever else I found at the farmers' market that day) than when I just make Spaghetti With Meat Sauce, which tends to have . . . garlic. But that's probably just a personal interpretation.
